I have taught IELTS English for 30 years. Over that time, I have made note of the most common errors in grammar and usage and wrote this book to help IELTS test takes and English as a Second Language learners master important grammar rules and usage.
This book has 30 tips for remembering the most common grammar rules and correct usage so your English is both fluent and correct for the IELTS Speaking Test and IELTS Written Test
THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE YOU CAN CORRECT
“HE” AND “HIM” VERSUS “SHE” AND “HER”
Personal pronouns can be tricky in English. Many Asian languages do not have a separate word for personal pronouns for females versus males.
English uses “he” or “him” when referring to a male and “she” or “her” when referring to a female.
These personal pronouns are very important in English for describing someone. If you make a mistake on this important are of English, the IELTS examiner must reduce your IELTS band score.
EXAMPLE YOU MUST UNDERSTAND
“My mother gave birth to a baby boy. She is so happy.”
This a good example because only women (females) can give birth to babies. A person who is a “he” or a “him” cannot give birth.
So a sentence that says “My mother gave birth to a baby boy and he is proud of his baby” is incorrect. In this case, your mother did all the work of giving birth, so correct English uses “she” to identify the gender of the woman who gave birth.
IELTS COMPETITION IS GETTING BIGGER
In 2018, 3,000,000 applicants took the IELTS, compared to 1,400,000 in 2009. More people are taking the IELTS and the competition is getting greater.
An IELTS score of Band 6 or better will give you the best chance of being accepted for study or work in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States.
This IELTS test book will give you the correct grammar and usage you need to make your English smooth, easy to understand and help you score higher in the IELTS test.
